The Piano Saga*

Two more weeks.

If I hear that one more time I think I might blow up. My piano saga has been dragging on and on and on sine JULY. I just want my piano…

It all started with Long & McQuade. Well, actually it started when I moved away from home and no longer had a piano to play, but the piano shopping began in July at Long & McQuade. I have played piano since I was 7 or 8, and before I left for university I was a fairly decent player. I could sight read without much difficulty and could play at perhaps a Grade 5 or 6 level. I took lessons for a year and a half when I was little, but quit and began teaching myself because I didn’t get along with my piano teacher. ANYWAY. This past July marked almost 2 years that I hadn’t had the regular use of a piano and I have really noticed a decline in my skill. I’m absolutely terrified I’ll lose it, so I finally gave in and went piano shopping. I found a nice little casio (http://www.casio.com/products/Musical_Instruments/

Traditional_Digital_Pianos/CDP-100/) that was reasonably priced and I tried to purchase it. However, the display model was the only one in stock. I am not really a fan or buying display ANYTHING, especially not a musical instrument, because heaven knows what people do to things.

Anyway. So I asked if they could order one and was told that it could take several weeks. They again tried to push the display model (which no longer even had a box) and I relented and said I would take it at a discounted price. This offer was rejected. So I said I would take it if they even just threw in the bench. At this point, the salesman pretty much told my husband off and made a joke about it. I was SO turned off that we left the store. The customer service was APPALLING.

So. We resolved to try and find a similar keyboard at a local music store here in town. We found a nice little shop with people who actually knew what customer service was and began our search. The owner sold me on a brand new model he had just ordered (http://www.music-town.de/musik-instrumente/BEHRINGER

-Eurogrand-EG-2080-Schwarz-Digitalpiano.html) and I fell in love with it. He told me that they were on order from Europe and that I should check back early October.

I had a little over a month to wait. After such a hassle and having already waited so long, I figured it wasn’t such a big deal. Anyway, school started and September flew by and before we knew it we were on the phone checking the status of my long awaited piano. “Some delay in the shipping” was what we heard and we were told to call back in 2 weeks.

So 2 weeks again went by fairly quickly and we were on the phone again. Some other delay had occurred and we needed to call back again in two more weeks, but that it would definitely be there then.

I was thoroughly disappointed but The Hubster wisely counseled me to be patient, so I was. So we called again, having waited THREE weeks, instead of the appointed two. And again we were told, two more weeks. I JUST WANT MY FLIPPING PIANO!!!!! :(

So frustrating. arugh.

Haircut Day*

I normally love haircut day. The Hubster always looks hot with a nice short do. He owns his own clipper set and has been cutting his own hair pretty much since we got married. He’s quite good at it, he usually does the whole thing, then I just fix up the back. We’re a good hair team. Now, he’s been bugging me for some time to try and cut it all by myself. I’ve been trying to avoid it because he’s a little particular about the style of the cut. However, this morning he talked me into it. Eek. Haha… first of all, I was terrified and took almost 45 minutes to do it because I was so nervous. But I cut cut cut… so, we finished most of it, then it came to the front. I cut that too… then he looked in the mirror and I realized I had cut too much!!! We put some gel in, he straightened out some uneven areas, and now my hubs has a nice short haircut. Oh man… haha… I LOVE his hair short, but I think he’s a little unsure about it. I feel kind of bad, I was so nervous to do it to begin with. Mind you, he’s such a good hubs that he’s been telling me all day that he likes it… :)

As much as I love when he cuts his hair, I’m usually a nervous wreck about cutting my own. I don’t really have a ‘regular’ stylist, and usually end up wherever’s cheap (oh, the life of a student). I’m not really THAT fussy, so long as it’s fun and nicely done, I’m usually happy. I have a friend who works as a hairdresser, [Hair Girl], and she knows me well enough to cut my hair to almost exactly what I ask.

However, the last time I went for a cut she was away, so I ended up going to this new place that was offering this incredibly priced deal for a dye and cut. I was supposed to be with a girl who was young, but had some experience, but last minute she called in sick, and unbeknowst to me, ended up with a brand-spankin’ new girl. Spart was with me, and I think her haircut turned out fabulously… so maybe this girl just didn’t like me! She did a really good job on the dye, but she absolutely butchered my cut. The thing is, I didn’t even realize how bad it was until the next day. Because I had been in the salon for so long between my dye job, and Spart and my cuts, I left with my hair wet and just threw it up in a pony tail. Never again.

The next day I woke up and went to do my hair. First of all, I straightened it, and when I took a look at the back, it looked like I had a claw of hair that was almost and inch longer than the rest. Then I tried lining up my front, and realized that one side was about a half inch longer than the other. My bangs were butchered and my layers looked like huge chunks. Iiiiiiii was devastated. Haha… my handy hubby came to the rescue and cleaned up the back as best he could, and I tried to fix my bangs. Because we live in a different city from where I cut my hair, I couldn’t even go back and demand they fix it. So now, 2 months and 15 (or so) self-made cuts later, I am almost happy with my hair. I’m just hanging on until Christmas when I can go see Hair Girl and hope she can fix me because at this point I don’t trust anyone else. It’s really quite sad. :( *sigh*

A good friend of mine just chopped off ALL her hair. I mean all of it. It looks like it’s less than an inch short. I’ve thought about it a lot… I almost did it once– but I was too afraid to go any shorter than my chin line, and that’s the shortest it’s ever been. She’s just much braver than me… and she even cut it herself! I’ll call her [Brave Girl], because I think she’s awesome. xo

Anyway, I can’t believe I just wrote a full entry about hair. I guess I’m just THAT good. haha

My world and the people in it*

Before I start writing about my little world, I should probably introduce you to the people who are in it.

So. My family: I have wonderful parents [Mom & Dad] who have currently been married for 29 years!! Awesome, eh? And I also have 5 siblings… so here we go! [Doodle] is my eldest brother, currently in his last year of law school. [Peeah] is my eldest sister, who has been teaching for the past 3 years. [Spart] is my next eldest sister who just graduated from university! Then there’s me [Shop Girl*]. I then have two younger brothers, [Choppy/Chop], who is in his first year of college, and [Teep], my guitar playing littlest brother, who is the only one left at home.

As well, if you’ve read my profile, you’ll see that I’m married!! [The Hubster] and I have been married for almost 2 years and are going strong!! With him comes in-laws [D & D], his sister [Dog Lover] & her fiancee [Spiritual Voice], and his best friend [Too Cool].

I also have a ton of close friends… but I think you’ll most often hear about [Dee], probably my best friend here at school, and [Tiger], probably my best guy friend since birth. [Material Girl] has been a very close friend to me since elementary school, and is probably the one person I know I can always count on. I pretty much trust her with everything… :) [Telly] is my soulmate, even though I’ve only known her a couple of years, she and I have an amazing friendship bond and I love her to death. And then there is [Gene]… she and I were the very best of friends throughout high school, and drifted as we hit university. But, I haven’t given up on us yet– I still miss her like crazy and I know that eventually we’ll be close again! New to the list is [Twin], who I just met this summer but already love to death. She’s awesome.

The Beginning*

Hi.
So… this is my blog. I always hate the first entry of any journal type thing because I always feel like it has to be full of introductions to EVERYTHING. Well, I’ve decided to be lazy and just let you find things out as I continue to write. So this is it for now… but I’ll be back.
