Page Not Loading?

Hello dear readers,

I just came across some troubling information–I learned that my blog is not loading properly for someone and in fact often crashes when she tries to load it. Is this happening for anyone else?!! Or is the page taking a reeeeally long time to load?

Please let me know if you’re having trouble… if so I’ll switch the template immediately to make it a little more reader-friendly. :)

Blog Troubles?
No problems! It works great!
Sometimes it’s a little slow.
It always takes a reeeeally long time to load.
I often can’t load it at all.

Before the Bloom*

I used to write… a lot. As a child / teenager I wrote something every day… be it a journal entry or short story, but most often I expressed myself through poetry. When I moved for the first time I stopped writing completely. I was (initially) so devastated about moving to Btown that I gave up what I loved most–my writing. University and the constant demand for academic essays removed any remaining desire to write… until I started writing here.

I’ve even started writing poetry again… but before I’m brave enough to share anything new with you, I wanted to post the last poem I wrote as a teenager. I think it’s still my favourite piece I’ve ever written as I can still remember where I was when I wrote it, but I can also feel the way I felt when I wrote it. It was a chilly January evening and the normal chaos of my house up north had subsided to a warm silence as I watched the snowfall out a window. The air I breathe is crisp and cold– my breath breaks the still night.
The stars in the sky shine like gold; their beauty is my delight.
I lay in piles of fallen snow as it falls gently from the sky.

One tiny little snowflake fluttered down amidst the breeze,
It settled on my snowman’s crown o’rlooked by swaying trees.

The snowman had a heav’nly glow with a twinkle in its eye.

Its smile was made from coal with a wood pipe to complete,
It warmed me to my soul–from my head right to my feet.

I stared in childlike wonder at the man that I had made…

When suddenly across the sky flashed a brilliant scene,
A shooting star caught my eye and pulled me from my dream.
The star soared o’er and under until finally it laid

Somewhere in a world beyond where dreams and wishes grow.
I closed my eyes, yawned, and tasted falling snow.
Higher and higher rose the moon as time just passed me by.

It was late– the icy chill in the air deepened as I lay,
Still I laid there without care wanting just to stay.

Knowing I must go in soon I sighed a heavy sigh.

To leave this heaven wasn’t right–it seemed almost like a sin,
But I bade the world goodnight and blew kisses to the wind. (2001)

Chapter Two* The Ring [Proposal: Part Two]

Well, after careful deliberation I decided not to be a jerk and simply carry on with Our Story right away. :)

As the previous post is directly beneath this one I won’t give you TOO much of an introduction… but for those of you just joining now, this is the story of how The Hubster and I met, fell in love, and were married within 8 months…

…and lived happily ever after*

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005 (dinner)

As the Hubster and I got into his car he didn’t tell me where we were going for dinner… so when he pulled into Swiss Chalet I was pretty happy as it had sort of become “our place”. I know it’s maybe not most people’s #1 choice for somewhere to eat, but I love it there, it’s great for people on a student budget, and after all he did take me there on our very first date!

That evening (like most evenings) he was the perfect date. MEN: take note of the following… haha! After we ordered and were waiting for our food we sat and talked… I loved (and love) talking to him as from day one I could always tell that he was not only hearing what I was saying, but really listening and contributing to the conversation. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that when we were together I had 100% of his attention.

He reached across the table and held my hands, which at the time, looked like this:

(you can click on pictures to enlarge them)

This was my every day jewelry. As you can see, the space on my ring finger was occupied. As he held my hands he twirled my rings around and played with them while still maintaining eye contact to show that he was really paying attention to me while I talked.

Just as our food came my cell phone started ringing. After our discussion about cell phones shortly after we started dating and wanting to spend time with the Hubster I glanced at the call display to see that it was Peeah calling and turned my ringer off, making a mental note to call her later.

As our food was put on the table we had to stop holding hands and I failed to see that something was different. We continued to chat as we ate and had a wonderful dinner… though at this point I really had no idea of what he had in store for me in only a couple of hours.

After dinner he excused himself to use the restroom and I reflected on what a perfect evening it had been thus far. When he came back a moment later I told him about Peeah’s phone call. He thoughtfully asked if I needed to go home to return her call, but I wasn’t ready to end our evening just yet (and thank goodness I didn’t!!).

So, he helped me put on my coat, scarf and mittens (which hid my hands) and walked me out to his car for the next surprise of the evening. :)

Chapter One* The Pre-Proposal

This is the story of how the Hubster and I met, fell in love and were married within 8 months…

….and lived happily ever after*

I know that many of you have been waiting for this chapter since I started writing out how the Hubster and I met. If you’re a new reader, you are welcome to read this chapter first as the ending is obvious (we’ve been married for nearly 3 years now), but if you’d like to see the rest of the story, you can read it HERE.

I last told you about the Hubster’s mission to ask Big Dad for his blessing (permission) to marry me. There were actually about 2 weeks between that time and the night that the Hubster asked me to marry him and I toyed with the idea of drawing it out and making you wait a little longer for this part of the story (it’s my favourite). However, I finally decided that after my months of cliff hanger posts that I’d skip right to the best part–Tuesday, March 15th, 2005.

Before I start writing, I want to preface this by telling you that I’m going to do my best to make it well-rounded from both of our perspectives as I’ll be drawing details from my source for many of these chapters: Our Yellow Book. I have never told you about our book, but it’s something I hold very near and dear to my heart. On one date the Hubster took me to spend a day downtown in the city, and we wandered into a store and decided to buy a book where we could record our memories and photographs. The book is full of keepsakes, and we have both written in it from time to time… like right after we got engaged. :)

So… without any further ado: this is the story of how my best friend and love of my life asked me to become his wife.

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005 (pre-dinner)

I remember spending most of the day in class. With my flare for scheduling classes I had managed to arrange it so that I had at LEAST a 4-day weekend every weekend, but that resulted in a busy mid-week. The Hubster and I had spoken the night before about maybe getting together that evening, so that morning I decided to actually get dressed instead of wearing my usual get up of jogging pants or pajamas to class. I decided to wear an outfit that he loved–my long white (slightly off the shoulder) sweater and dark jeans with my hair long and curly, just like he loved it.

I finished my last class at 4:30 or 5pm and made my way back to my house. I was a little surprised that I hadn’t heard from the Hubster all day, but I assumed that maybe he was working or out running errands (which he was..) and that I’d hear from him later.

As I walked through my front door I saw some familiar shoes in the hallway. With a huge smile on my face I walked upstairs to find the man that I love waiting there to give me something…

…a plant. haha! Let me explain: in first year I had a very good friend that gave me a very special gift. This friend loved cacti and gave me one of his favourites which we named Man-Man. Well, for months I took care of my little plant with all the love and affection that I possess. He lived on my window sill to get as much sun as possible. Unfortunately, on one windy day he was blown out of the window and collapsed on the floor. I was devastated and sent him home to recuperate. For a long time I was plant-less, and I do love a good plant. So, on this day in March the Hubster was waiting for me to give me an adorable pink and green plant. We named it Pearl so that I could from then on officially be known as the mother of Pearl. :)

How cute and thoughtful is he? I was so happy with my little plant… and it lives on at my parents house in B town! We made a beautiful little home for it in my room, then he casually asked if I’d like to go out for dinner. Of course I said “absolutely!” and as he stood up I was again overwhelmed by just how much I loved this man. And he looked soooooo good… he was wearing my favourite blue and white collared shirt, nice jeans and (naturally) good shoes.

He held out his hand, and together we went out to start what would become one of the most memorable evenings of my life…
