Music for the Soul*

I don’t often post a lot of “churchy” stuff (unless it’s a funny story that must be shared) as I guess I feel like my beliefs are my own and I don’t want to push anything on anyone. Besides, that’s not really what my little blog is all about. However, tonight there is something I absolutely must share.

I love music.

I love music to the core of my being… I listen to everything. I love everything from rock to hip hop, from dance to opera, from classical to indie. I have a little bit of everything in my itunes–there isn’t really one band or artist that dominates my play list. I typically only like a handful of songs from any CD so I have a huge hodge-podge of music.

…except for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

I love choral music. Love. I have been in choirs and ensembles all my life and love the music. Something about a beautiful harmony resonates within my soul and I get goosebumps. I have a collection of music from a variety of internationally known choirs, but the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is my favourite. Hands down.

I recently found a video for one of my all-time favourite pieces, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and I actually cried when I listened (embarrassing, I know. Music does this to me. *sigh*). Its absolutely beautiful. If you’re not into religious music, just listen to the harmony and the accompaniment.

The best action happens at 4:15 or so if you don’t want to listen to the whole thing, although I highly recommend it.

The Death of The Hairbrush*

I am frustrated.

There are certain things in life I feel you should only have to find once… the prefect hairdresser / salon, the perfect restaurant, the perfect shoe store… and the perfect hair brush.

I hate buying hair brushes.

Seriously.

I have big crazy thick sometimes-wavy-sometimes-straight hair that is picky about what goes through it. For years I hunted for a hairbrush that could de-tangle even my most beastly hair days.

…and then I found it. The one. My big round hairbrush with perfect bristles. It didn’t hurt when I brushed my hair. It didn’t make my hair staticky. It gave me that shimmery shine that I thought only shampoo commercial models could achieve.

We spent two glorious years together. I reeeeally liked this hair brush so I gave it some love and took good care of it.

…and then it broke. The handle snapped right off.

I was so sad… but I didn’t give up hope. I bought the thing at Walmart of all places, so amidst my sadness I knew I could simply go back and replace it. Right? Right?

WRONG.

The Hubs was sympathetic to my plight (he knew how much I loved this thing) and trekked with me to Walmart and even ventured into the hair aisle to help me search.

It wasn’t there. (seriously?!)

There wasn’t even anything comparable… they were all cheap garbagey looking things. I refused to pay money for one that I didn’t love, so the Hubs, being the wonderful Hubs that he is, spent a good hour trying to fix it for me. He managed to give me a good temporary fix, but I still need a new one. *sigh*

This may sound like a lot of ‘hoo-hah‘ over a hair brush, but uggggggggh. It took me SO LONG to find “the one”. And now it is gone.

I’m sad.

Blogging Space*

You know, it’s bizarre. Life hasn’t been as crazy this past little while yet I feel like I have no time for blogging. I think it is because I no longer have my “blogging space”. Do you ever think about that? About where you blog? I always write at my desk. Always. It’s my “place”. When I don’t have access to my desk it’s like my brain freezes and and my blogging genius (I like to pretend that’s what it is) vanishes. VAMOOSH. As I have been staying with my cousin for the past couple of weeks to finish this placement my desk (and drive to blog) is at home with my Hubster.

What about you… do you have / need a blogging space?

My Firsts*

I saw this on Facebook and decided to steal it and do it here as I’ve basically given up on Facebook anyway. (The new ‘Friends’ page–seriously?!?! How can I possibly stalk my friends now? Wait, I mean monitor their every move, not stalk. …that didn’t come out right either.) So, here you are! Feel free to steal it if you’d like to do it on yours, just let me know and I’ll come read. :)

1. Who was your FIRST prom date?
My first boyfriend’s (Big Chief) best friend. Haha! I was friends with JT (named after Justin Timberlake for his N’SYNC-like hair) before Big Chief and I started dating, and one sunny afternoon JT and I made a pact that if all his plans to “woo the ladies” didn’t work, then I would be his date.

(JT and I are on the far right… I had no time to buy a dress so I borrowed one from my sister. haha! You can click on it to enlarge it)

2. Do you still talk to your FIRST love?
No… but that was teenage-first-boyfriend-ever kind of love. I DO talk my forever-kind-of-love every day. :) (That would be the Hubster, just in case you weren’t clear there.)

3. What was your 1st alcoholic drink?
I am proud to say that in my (almost) 24 years of life I have never touched a drop.

4. What was your FIRST job?
I was a paper girl. My route was so big (and I was so slow… I like to smell the flowers, so sue me) Big Dad had to help me deliver half my route. haha!

5. What was your FIRST car?
Well, I have yet to ‘own’ my own car (we are starting to shop now! YAY) but my first car would have to be the big blue Vanimal.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?
No text love today… sad.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?
My Hubster. I love being home for the weekend!

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?
Ohh… she was WONDERFUL. To this day she is still one of my all-time favourite teachers. She part of the reason I have never tried smoking–she made our whole class stand up and take a pledge that we wouldn’t try smoking. I have held on to that ever since. (annnnnd she gave good tips… I delivered her paper too. haha) 9. Where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?
Portland, Oregon

10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?
That would be Gilbert, my boy-down-the-street-and-around-the-corner-and-down-the-hill. :) We don’t talk often as we used to, but I just got a message from him on Facebook this week.

(Gilbert & I at his high school grad…you can click it to make it bigger)

11. Where was your FIRST sleep over?
At Blondie’s… she was my other best friend / neighbour. We LIVED at each other’s houses on the weekends!

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?
My Hubster. It’s so nice being able to wake up and have him there. :)

13. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?

17. FIRST movie you remember seeing?
The Little Mermaid

18. When was your FIRST detention?
Well, we didn’t really “do” detentions until I got into high school. My first real detention was in grade 10. However, I did have to stay in and write lines pleeeeenty of times in grade 6… “If I had been doing what I should have been doing, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now”.

19. Where was the first state/province you lived in?
Ontaaaaario.

20. Who was your FIRST roommate?
Besides Spart, Peeah and Choppy? (We had two sets of bunk beds… we though 4 kids in one room was normal. haha) Well, that would be my first year of university when I was randomly placed in a town-house style residence with 5 roommates. It was… interesting.

21. If you had one wish. What would it be?
Right now? To find a really, really great teaching job.
