A Summer of Dresses*

(via: http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/dresses%20mademoiselle%20robot%20summer%20wardrobe.jpg)

What a difference a good night’s sleep makes.

I feel refreshed.

The nausea is almost completely gone, but I’m still taking it pretty easy today. I feel like I have more energy and my body doesn’t ache as badly. I almost feel normal, except for the absense of my appetite.

As I’m normally starving when I wake up in the morning.

So, I’m cautiously optimistic that the worst is over and that by tomorrow I’ll be my normal self. It’s been off an on since Saturday, so I’m just hoping that whatever this is doesn’t rear its ugly head one more time before it’s through.

Anyway.

I’ve been doing some thinking. As Gaston would say, “the wheels in my head have been turning!”

I’ve been thinking a lot about “guest blogging”. Tomorrow I debut dress #2 for my Six Months + Six Dresses challenge. (I’m excited!!) As I’ve been working through this challenge, I keep thinking, “What kinds of dresses are people wearing these days?!” And then it hit me: I should ask!

So here is my proposal: I want a glimpse into your closet. I want to see your favourite dresses and how you wear them! Where are they from? What do you wear them with? How do you accessorize them? What shoes do you wear them with? Where do you wear them?

…and I want you to write about it!

Take a photo of the dress and of you wearing it, and tell me about where it’s from and give me some details on how and where you wear it!

If you’re interested in participating, leave a comment below, send me an email to [email protected], or leave me a message on my Facebook Page.

Again, you don’t have to be a “blogger” to do this–I know I have several readers  who don’t have blogs but who I’ve seen wearing fun dresses in photos! If you are worried about with the writing portion of it, keep it simple, and I can absolutely help you out there. Just send me a photo and the details and we’ll go from there!

Also, I can keep your personal information completely confidential–we can either make up a blog name for you, or just use your first name only.

I’m really excited about this!!!! I hope hope hope that you’re all willing to participate!! :)

Let me know!

Jani’s Journey*

Hi dears,

My course load is a bit insane this week. I have about a billion things due tomorrow–and I’m already booked to work–so I’m attempting to use my time wisely tonight. I’ve already put in four straight hours tonight (with one “minor” interruption for a call to Service Canada–I love being on hold for 23 minutes, don’t you?!) and my eyes are swimming.

And the best part? I’m not even done yet! WOO WOO!

My dishes aren’t done, my laundry is in a heap, and I’m pretty sure that my living room just exploded.

Anyway.

I’m completely burnt out. All of my creative juices just went into the Applied Behavioural Analysis assignment I just completed. So, as my brilliance is tapped out for this evening, I thought I’d leave you with something else.

Something that left me reeling after I read it–I seriously couldn’t stop thinking about it all day.

Meet January.

She’s that cute as a button little blonde girl in the middle…who has been diagnosed with child onset schizophrenia.

Finally learning that diagnosis was a long, arduous process for January’s parents, who spent years trying to discover what was ailing their child. When I began reading her story I was mesmerized–I couldn’t stop reading.

It’s long, but it’s so worth the read.

Flash Mob*

One of my life’s ambitions is to participate in a flash mob.

Ever since I saw the first T-Mobile commercial, I have wanted this. Longed for this. And at some point in my life, I intend to make this happen.

…but I always thought that I’d have to travel to do it. The big ones I’ve seen have been in London, New York, and other major cities.

Then a friend sent me this:

Ummm… that’s the EATON CENTRE. As in downtown Toronto.

Sweet mother of pearl, how did I not know about this until now?!

Love. :)

FOUND IT!

I FOUND IT.

A couple of weeks ago I got a call to go teach at one of my favourite high schools. This school plays the best music in the mornings as the kids shuffle into their first classes. It’s the same place that introduced me to this song, which I have been obsessed with ever since.

When I first heard that song, I fell in love with it immediately. After several days at the school I finally found a kid who knew the name of it so I could get it for myself. It was an arduous process, but well worth the effort.

…and then it happened again.

About a month ago I went back to the school and a new song came on that I had never heard of it. It was upbeat and fun. Again, the kids came head bopping and dancing into the room–it was such a great way to start the morning.

But no one knew the name of it.

On two other occasions I went back and it made it’s way onto the morning playlist, but no one could tell me the name. There are no lyrics, so I couldn’t even catch a few phrases to search online. I seriously spent an hour one Saturday morning going through Club Music charts trying to find it and agonized on Facebook about my lack of success.

…and then it played this morning.

I had a group of grade 12 University English students for first period, and several students came to class well before the first bell. As soon as the song same on I began asking if anyone knew what it was called.

Again, no luck.

And then two girls jumped up and offered to go to the office to discover the name and office. I looked at the clock, and then back and them, then back to the clock…

…and decided that they had enough time to make it there and back and not be late. hahaha

*bows head in shame*

They took off for the office while the rest of the class laughed at me and admitted that they too were curious about the name of the song. After a few moments they came running back in with a name and an artist.

And then, life was complete. (In that moment, anyway.)

I’ve probably played a billion times tonight and I looooove it. It’s so simple and kind of cheesy, but it’s perfect for my running playlist. You have to listen to it loudly to get the full effect.

I give you: We Live for the Music – Showtek

It makes me want to get up and dance!!! It’s such a healthy way to vent frustrations, don’t you think?

Anyway, it made my day.

Like it?

Zombie Ants*

I love nature documentaries and videos.

I realize that this probably makes me a giant nerd, but I can’t help it. I could sit want watch Planet Earth all day long, then spend the evening curled up  watching National Geographic documentaries all night. I find them incredibly interesting, and wonderfully relaxing.

So, when I saw that my friend Jae had posted a short nature clip on her Facebook the other day, I clicked it immediately… and I wasn’t disappointed. You see, there are two types of documentaries that I love most of all: oceans and bugs.

I love documentaries about the ocean and its inhabitants because it’s so… mysterious. There is so much that we don’t yet know, and I find sea creatures to be absolutely fascinating.  Seriously–Giant Squids?

(Courtesy of: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/09/photogalleries/giant_squid/images/primary/squid1.jpg)

How cool is THAT?

Anyway. I also love watching documentaries about bugs. I wouldn’t put them in the majestic and mysterious category with the ocean, they are more of a creepy and fascinating watch. Also, I am terrified of almost all of them.

…but somehow I love watching videos about them. Weird? I think yes.

So, when I saw that Jae had posted a video about Zombie Ants–my curiosity was peeked, and I was not disappointed. Just watch, my lovelies, just watch.

CRAZY. For more info, read here: New Zombie-Creating Fungi

Can you even handle it? I’m glad those beasts are in the jungle and not in my house.
